Taft is nestled in a small valley in the southern foothills of the Temblor Mountain Range in the heart of California's oil country. We are located 7 miles north of Maricopa, 35 SW of Bakersfield, two hours away from Los Angeles, and a short 100 mile drive as the main San Joaquin Valley access to the Central Coast beach cities. Taft is a growing area, home to 18,000 residents and numerous companies who enjoy friendly neighbors, temperate climates that find us well above the fog line, while enjoying a bustling economy.
Taft is 'Energized for the Future'. There is an abundance of available land for development around the City with planned housing developments and industrial parks in the works. In the heart of the City, along the Rails to Trails, new revitalization and new economic redevelopment projects are in the early stages to add to the shopping experience of the Old Down Town.
Designated as the Gateway to the Carrizo Plains National Monument, Taft is also a Destination City offering a number of activities for families to enjoy: the Historic Fort; West Kern Oil Museum; Tule Elk Reserve; Honolulu Hills Raceway; Buena Vista Lake and the Buena Vista Golf Course; skydiving at Taft Airport; some of the largest oilfields in California; and four wheeling in the Temblor Range overlooking Taft and the Carrizo Plains. There's always some thing to do year round to fit your needs.
Come and looks us over. Stay, play, visit, learn, and enjoy all about the small town charm of one of California's hidden treasures.
